The Bridesmaids
Angela Rassi- Maid of Honor
Angi is one of Ruple's best friends. They met about 5 minutes into their freshman year of college and have been almost inseparable since. Angi is one of the most ambitious and accomplished people we know, and she has had a large part in Ruple being who she is today. After living together in Evanston and then in Chicago for the better part of 6 years, Angi went to Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania and earned her MBA. She currently lives, thankfully, nearby Ruple in Minneapolis and works in the marketing division of General Mills, Inc and is engaged to another NU alumnae, Brent Trinacty.
Toral Patel
Toral and Ruple may well have been separated at birth. She serves both as Ruple's mentor and peer, in life and career and for this and much more, Ruple loves her dearly. Not only do they lead parallel lives, they also share a long history of friendship, initiated by their parents, all four of which attended medical school together in India. Toral currently lives in Chicago with her husband Neil, and is a second year resident in Internal Medicine at University of Illinois.
Alka Pateriya
Alka is one of Ruple's closest college friends. Though she lives halfway across the country, she still in many ways is like the sister Ruple never had. Supportive, and loving she continues to occupy a special part of Ruple's heart. Through their many escapades of fun and shopping (lots of shopping), Ruple and Alka have continued to broaden their friendship. Alka currently lives outside of Washington D.C. where she works as a Dean of Students at a middle school.
Debra Speert
What can we say about Deb? Though cute and sprite-like on the outside, Deb is one of the most intelligent, diligent and impressive people Ruple has ever met and she cherishes her friendship and love beyond words. Deb is one of those people that Ruple knows she can call at anytime, for anything and will always have an open ear, and heart. Deb currently lives and works in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the University of Michigan where she is completing her PhD work in neuroscience, before moving on to Baltimore to begin her post-doctoral work.
Danielle Dell
Dani is so many things to Ruple, but is all comes down to one quality- mom. Dani is not only Ruple's pledge mom in their college sorority of Pi Beta Phi, but also her "mom" in life. Dani has the ability, the wisdom and the initiative to put people's butt into gear. When Dani says to do something, you do it- no questions asked, despite her tiny frame. Ruple has relied on her quite a bit to help set things straight. Dani currently lives outside of San Francisco, in Concord, California with her husband Jim, where she is working as a high school mathematics teacher.
Gia Haigh
Gia is Ruple's other half. Ruple and Gia were "joined at the hip" from junior high through high school and shared every adolescent misadventure, secret and joy. Gia was Ruple's grounding force through high school, college and now into their adult lives. Gia proves to Ruple day in and day out that a life without friends, true and earnest friends, is not livable. Though Gia lives rather far away in Seattle with her husband Jamey and daughter Emma, she is in Ruple's thoughts daily.
The Groomsmen
Rob Laughlin- Best Man
Rob has been Mike's brother since Mike was born and it is only natural that he is the best man. While growing up in Iowa, they were always pretty close, until age 13, when Rob pulled a pair of scissors on Mike in a confrontation. They have not spoken since. Ok, that was a joke. They are still very close, but he did pull the scissors. Rob currently lives in Des Monies, Iowa and is in the stocks and bonds trade. He enjoys his work very much and in his free time likes to indulge in billiards and movies. Although they do not look much alike, Mike has always taken after and looked up to Rob in life and people often remark how similar they speak and laugh.
Dipal Shah
Dipal is Ruple's younger brother, and wow, what a brother. Dipal is one of the most active and energetic people (certainly) the groom knows. Mike met Dipal shortly after he started dating Ruple. Dipal has been a great person for Mike in terms of understanding Ruple and the rest of the family. Dipal actually single-handedly prevented Mike from having a heart attack prior to Mike asking the Shahs' permission to marry their daughter by being the liaison and general calming presence during the event. Dipal currently attends law school in Washington, D.C. and is, of course, doing very well and has just been named a Dean's Fellow.
Scott Goldstein
Scott is one of Mike's closest friends. They met the first week of college at Northwestern and have lived together during college and medical school for a total of five years. Scott is a hysterical human being. Hailing from Silver Springs, Maryland, Scott was a roadie for Grand Funk railroad before deciding on a Pediatrics residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island which he will finish in June. Scott's wife, Agnes, has persuaded him to come back to the great city of Chicago to live, beginning summer 2003. They are a fantastic and fun couple, and we are looking forward to them being at the wedding.
Charles Reedy
Mike met Chuck during Chuck's freshman year at college at Northwestern where they lived in the same dormitory. The next year, they lived off campus in an apartment with Scott Goldstein. Chuck has an incredible sense of humor and that is why Mike gets along with him so well, along with his flawless Mick Jagger impression. Chuck is currently working towards his PhD in chemistry at Columbia University in New York City. Although being from Lombard, Illinois, Chaz (his New York name) has gone completely Euro-Trash since moving to the Big Apple. Expect to see him in a tight, sleeveless Union Jack tee and leather pants at the wedding
Jason Geller
Jason is one of Mike's closest high school buddies. Mike met Jason their freshman year of high school in English class and he has enjoyed their friendship ever since. Every time Mike makes it back home, he can always count on seeing Jason and his billiard prowess at the local watering hole, even if Jason has to get up early for work the next morning. Jason is an account manager at a beverage delivery company in Des Monies, often delivering the suds himself. He has three daughters, including a set of twins, which keep him rather busy. Jason's duties at the wedding will include setting up the gaming table.
Michael Martinson
Marty is one of Mike's oldest and closest friends. They have actually known each other since elementary school (over 20 years). Marty was one of Mike's basketball buddies throughout high school and you will see why when you note his tremendous length. Marty graduated from the University of Iowa, and now resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he works for Arizona State University. Some would describe Marty as demure, but we know him to be incredibly funny, insightful, an avid reader, and a music lover. Mike owes many of his music interests to Marty, including Electric Light Orchestra and Atlantic Starr. We are ecstatic that Marty is a part of our wedding.
